JASON COMOTTO
JASON COMOTTO
Kansas City
Jason Comotto is a multimedia artist whose work explores the accumulated memories people assign to everyday objects while embracing the tactile qualities of analog film and media. His practice draws inspiration from childhood imagination, particularly the brief, magical period when he and his brother believed the world was full of hidden wonders, from ancient relics that could teach karate on school field trips to treasures waiting to be discovered in the backyard.
In his installations, Comotto often plays with scale, transforming small, personal objects into monumental forms. Many of these oversized artifacts resemble the kinds of items someone might crumple in their pocket or lose at the bottom of a purse, with some even drawn directly from his own 1990s childhood memorabilia. Through this approach, he invites viewers to reconsider the significance of the mundane and nostalgic.
Within the broader narrative environment of the exhibition, Comotto’s work functions like a layered, mysterious dip, rich with flavors that reveal themselves slowly through exploration and the passage of time. His pieces encourage visitors to look closer, wander deeper, and uncover meaning as they move through the space.
