Atlas9 and Antenna Releasing Announce New Partnership Bringing Independent Cinema and Filmmakers to Kansas City
New theatrical collaboration launches August 13 with the Dead Media Roadshow screening and an in-person Q&A with writer/director Joseph Scrimshaw
We are proud to launch a new programming partnership with boutique independent film distributor Antenna Releasing that will bring acclaimed independent films, filmmaker appearances, roadshow screenings and one-of-a-kind cinematic experiences to life inside Theater 9.
The partnership debuts this Thursday, August 13, with the Dead Media Roadshow, featuring a special screening of the horror-comedy Dead Media followed by an exclusive live Q&A with writer/director Joseph Scrimshaw. The event marks the beginning of an ongoing series celebrating bold independent filmmaking and connecting audiences directly with the artists behind the films.
The collaboration pairs Atlas9’s immersive, experience-driven venue with Antenna Releasing's filmmaker-first approach to theatrical distribution, creating a new destination for independent cinema in the Kansas City market. Films will be showcased on the HOLOMAX, a 250-seat immersive theater environment that surrounds guests with projection-mapped visuals and cinematic storytelling.
““Atlas9 was created to be a place where people discover experiences they simply cannot find anywhere else. This partnership gives Kansas City audiences the opportunity to experience independent films in an immersive environment, in a unique format, alongside the people who made them.”

Kicking Off with Dead Media
The partnership begins with a screening of Dead Media, an inventive horror-comedy touring nationally as part of Antenna Releasing's Bonus Features Roadshow.
Written and directed by Joseph Scrimshaw, the film follows a troubled young woman, her lonely Gen X uncle, a haunted DVD and a movie night that refuses to stay dead. Described by Twin Cities Geek as “an exciting homage to great horror, cult classics and the bygone era of DVD bonus features,” Dead Media blends horror, comedy and nostalgia into a theatrical experience unlike anything audiences have seen before.
Following the screening, Scrimshaw will participate in an exclusive audience Q&A, offering behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the film, independent filmmaking and the creative process.
And Dead Media is just the beginning. The broader partnership is expected to include additional independent film premieres, repertory screenings, filmmaker appearances, cult classics and specialty cinema events throughout the coming year.
““We believe independent films deserve memorable theatrical experiences. With its unique immersive environment, Atlas9 is the ideal partner to bring those experiences—and the filmmakers behind them—to Kansas City audiences.”
