Atlas9 Welcomes the Premiere of BRING A SHOVEL: Harrison Street DIY
At Atlas9, we believe that great stories deserve a great stage.
That's why we're honored to host the premiere of BRING A SHOVEL: Harrison Street DIY on Thursday, July 9.
Created by Kansas City filmmaker Shawn Wright, BRING A SHOVEL: Harrison Street DIY explores the story of the Harrison Street DIY Skatepark and the community that transformed an overlooked space into something meaningful. More than a documentary about skateboarding, the film celebrates the power of creativity, collaboration, and the places that bring people together.
BRING A SHOVEL - A Film by Shawn Wright
BRING A SHOVEL explores the story of the Harrison Street DIY Skatepark in Kansas City.
Atlas9 was built to celebrate storytelling, not only through our immersive experience, but by creating a home for artists, filmmakers, performers, and creators to share their work. The HOLOMAX Theater was designed to host premieres, screenings, festivals, and live events that bring our creative community together, making Shawn's premiere a perfect fit.
We're thrilled that Shawn chose Atlas9 as the place to debut his film and can't wait to welcome audiences for this special evening of local storytelling.
“As a lifelong skateboarder I was captivated by the story of Harrison Street DIY. It had all the elements of a film I had wanted to make for years. Skateboarding, Kansas City, an historic and progressive neighborhood. It’s about a group of motivated young people taking a rare opportunity and running with it.
Bring a shovel is more than a skateboard film. It’s an inspiring Kansas City story about the pursuit of a dream and the power of community engagement. You don’t have to be a skateboarder to be inspired by this story.”
Whether you're passionate about independent film, Kansas City culture, skateboarding, or simply enjoy a great story, we invite you to join us.
